The living room in this house is two stories of glass on three sides. There's no wall to hide anything behind and no ceiling low enough to reach easily. The same is true through most of the house, which opens through sliding walls onto the pool deck, and again at the pool house, and again at the putting green beyond it.

So the design started outside and worked in. Thirteen wireless access points, three of them outdoor rated, carry the network across the property rather than just the floor plan. Audio runs on Sonos through the interior rooms, which keeps it familiar for the people living here, and on Coastal Source outdoors, specified for what salt air and irrigation do to speakers over time. The pool zone runs independently, so music at the water doesn't have to mean music in the kitchen.

Where the technology is visible, it's placed to sit still. The television in the great room is mounted flat to the stone chimney above a linear fireplace, with a Leon soundbar sized to match the width rather than the box it came in. Speakers through the kitchen, dining, gym, and living rooms are in-ceiling. Lighting runs on a Lutron processor, including the strips that wash the water feature between the two wings at night. Two video intercoms cover the entries, and the whole system runs from a single rack.
